Throughout my research in structural engineering, I have focused on advancing the stability and design of modular steel structures. I have been fortunate to publish 27 papers in well-regarded international journals, working alongside talented researchers and experts across the field. 

My work is driven by a desire to contribute to sustainable and innovative solutions within structural engineering. PhD Thesis

Title              : Research on the Instability Mechanism and Stability Design Method of Multi-Columns in Modular Steel Structures
Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Zhihua Chen (Professor at Tianjin University)

 

Main Research Contents:

  1. Introduction of a novel simplified connection analysis model and the establishment of a simplified finite element modeling
    technique to predict elastic-plastic responses accurately. Application of these methods to multi-story modular buildings to elucidate the
    influence of modular connections on modular column stability.
  2. Clarification and proposition of calculation formulas for the influence of various joint forms between single-story single-span and
    multi-story multi-span modular buildings. Additionally, examination of the impact of rotational stiffness and the stiffness of floor and
    ceiling beams on the stability bearing capacity of modular columns.
  3. Elaboration on the calculation relationship pertaining to the splicing effect of grouped columns on the stability bearing capacity of
    modular columns.
  4. Proposition of a more precise analysis model for module corners and grouped columns, complemented by the introduction of
    simplified analysis methods and calculation theories. Contribution to the comprehension of the instability mechanism and stability
    design of grouped columns and multi-column systems.

Master Thesis

Title             : Development and Study on the Seismic Behavior of Novel Joint in Pre-fabricated Modular Steel Building 

Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Jiabao Yan (Professor at Tianjin University) 

 

Main Research Contents:

  1. Developed a novel fully bolted connection design for pre-fabricated modular steel buildings to enhance lateral load resistance, structural stability, and seismic performance.
  2. Utilized ABAQUS/CAE for finite element modeling to analyze the ultimate structural behavior of the proposed connection under nonlinear static and quasi-static loadings.
  3. Conducted detailed and simplified modeling to study the effects of construction tolerances and gap between modules on structural behavior.
  4. Executed dynamic analysis on simplified models of 5-storey buildings with 12 modular units under real earthquake accelerograms, confirming the connection’s effectiveness in reducing inter-storey drift within code limits.
